Da Lat - the flower city on the Lam Vien Plateau
Perched more than 1,500 meters above sea level on the Lam Vien Plateau, Da Lat has long been a favorite escape from Vietnam's tropical heat, offering cool air, morning mist and an abundance of flowers. The city has no beaches or flashy theme parks, but it has something few other places do: year-round mild weather, old European-style architecture, and a network of lakes, waterfalls and hills woven through almost every corner of town. If this is your first trip to Da Lat, here are the places worth putting on your list.
Xuan Huong Lake - the heart of the city
Xuan Huong Lake sits right in the city center, and almost every visitor passes by it at least once. A shaded walking path circles the lake, and you can rent a tandem bike or simply stroll early in the morning while mist still hangs over the water. From here it's only a few minutes to Da Lat Market, scenic cafes, or the green slopes of Cu Hill right next door - a perfect starting point for a day of exploring by motorbike or electric cart.
Flower gardens and romantic photo spots
It's no accident Da Lat is nicknamed the "city of a thousand flowers." The City Flower Garden brings together hundreds of seasonal blooms arranged in themed sections, ideal for photos in the soft early-morning light. Nearby, Valley of Love is one of the city's oldest attractions, tied to countless local love stories, with a lake, pine-covered hills and several well-designed viewpoints for pictures. For a more laid-back, countryside feel, the flower and strawberry farms on the outskirts are popular with families and couples alike.

Pine hills, Langbiang Mountain and that highland air
To really feel the highland atmosphere, don't skip the pine forests that blanket the city. Cu Hill in the center and the roads around Tuyen Lam Lake are both lined with old pine trees offering plenty of shade for a slow walk or a coffee break with a view. A little further, in Lac Duong district, Langbiang Mountain is a favorite for hiking or a jeep ride to the summit, rewarding visitors with a panoramic view of the city and a glimpse into the culture of the local K'Ho ethnic community.

Waterfalls scattered around the city
Da Lat and its surrounding countryside are dotted with waterfalls, each with its own character. Datanla Falls, close to downtown, is known for its slide system that carries visitors down to the falls - great fun for groups of friends looking for a bit of adventure. Elephant Falls and Pongour Falls lie further out and the roads there can be a bit rough, but the payoff is a wilder landscape, with water cascading over natural stone steps that make for an impressive sight. During the rainy season the falls run fuller and stronger, though paths can get slippery, so sturdy shoes help.

Striking architecture worth seeing
Beyond nature, Da Lat also charms visitors with its mix of old French-colonial buildings and quirky modern design. Da Lat Cathedral, often called the "Chicken Church" for the rooster weathervane on its bell tower, is one of the city's oldest landmarks. Bao Dai Palace preserves much of its original interior, giving visitors a sense of how Vietnam's last royal family lived during their stays here. Meanwhile, the Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse) is something else entirely - a building of strange, flowing curves inspired by nature, and a magnet for travelers eager to photograph and explore its maze-like rooms.
A few practical tips
